A BRAND NEW START OR A REVITALISED ONE!
Welcome everyone to the February edition of PT News With Neil.
January has now passed. A time when the buzz word is often ‘New Year, New You’, we look to set goals for the year ahead. These can be compartmentalised into social, work, fitness, relationship, hobbies etc. We might write them down. We may set short, medium. long term goals. Often by the time the year is out those goals may have changed. Some goals may not have been reached, others achieved in the first few months, or some we just lose sight of and totally forget all about them.
When it comes to fitness and health goals, looking after our bodies is no different. Right now, most of us are pursuing our fitness goals with renewed vigour or perhaps we are starting on that journey for the first time. There are different ways we can ensure that we stay on track with our goals, using measurements of various means. This could be for example logging your workout sessions, how many reps, sets, for example or you may use the tape to carry out body measurements at regular intervals or it might be visual changes in the mirror. Or you may feel you have more energy? There are many different ways you can monitor and review progress.
However, sometimes we need to think more about WHY we are doing something. A MISSION statement if you like. This sets the tone for every goal that we set. This Fitness Mission for example needs to be all encompassing. We need a strong WHY. A reason when all these motivational tools don’t work, without a mission, we lose desire and purpose.
Look within yourself. There will be times ( believe you me it has happened to me so many times I have lost count!) when you don’t feel like going to the gym. We are not motivated to go to the gym, but when we go consistently, it forms a positive habit which creates Discipline. Your Mission should therefore be more longer term, in fact a LIFE mission will create less pressure. something that through consistency and discipline you work on day to day. Nothing is perfect, that’s impossible to achieve, but we should strive to be better each day.
